Oval Callout: WOOF

Did everyone read the August 7th edition of the Daily Mail:A front page article by Karen Hanna, "Dog gone!" It was a wonderful article about Flyball, MDKC's  Renee Nappier and great photographs of  "Mattie"  owned by KC Combs and "Thumper" owned by Renee. MDKC has been on the demo circuit, bringing Flyball to the locals:

Way to go flyball!  FLYBALL

Demos, Demos and more Flyball Demos...by Renee Nappier

Dog Days of Summer with the Hagerstown Suns, June 4, 2006: This was a new invite for us and quite enjoyable. Our information table was expertly (wo)manned by Jane Burrows alternating with Rebecca Lawson-when she wasn't box loading. Flyball participants: KC Combs handling her Bichon "Mattie" and Beagle "Thumper"; Dee Lozupone and her Whippet "Teller"; me with Whippet "Nari" and Water Spaniel "Bryce"; Junior Handler Lilli Sutton with the Border Terrier; Wendy Midgette with her Australian Shepherd "Willow"; and Andrew Midgette with the Staffordshire Bull Terrier "Piper". We're on for another Flyball demo next year!

Bark In The Park at the Harry Grove Stadium, Frederick, July 10, 2006: Once again, MDKC and the Corporal Punishment Flyball Team were asked to be a part of this annual event. It is a fabulous opportunity for a night out at a local ball game with Fido: the park is open to all pooches and their human escorts. Doggy related vendors abound and generally, fun is had by all. This year, after several days of rain, we had a clear night without even a distant rumble of thunder, and the Keys pulled off a victory in the final inning!

Participating this year were members Jane Burrows and Beth Anne Haner, expertly handling our information table on the concourse. Down on the field, the pre-game demo group consisted of members KC Combs with "Mattie" and "Thumper"; Dee Lozupone with "Teller and "Bryce", me with "Nari" and "Macy". Class members who helped included Bev Knoll handling the Border Terrier and her husband Rod who loaded the Box. "Thorne" a Bedlington Terrier, was handled by Laura Kieffer. Wendy Midgette and her son,Andrew,of our Flyball team, rounded out the group with "Willow" and "Piper". We're on for next year. Come on out and support us!

Camp Day at the Hagerstown Suns, July 25, 2006: Another fun day in Hagerstown and a great opportunity for our kid-friendly flyball pooches to strut their stuff. Participants included: KC Combs (Mattie and Thumper), Dee Lozupone (Teller), Tracey Luggiero (Luke), Lilli Sutton (Border Terrier), Bev Knoll (Thorne), me (Nari and Bryce). Rebecca was our box loader. The info table was alternately handled by Rebecca and Dee.

I encourage anyone with a well socialized pooch to attend these events in the future. It's a great chance to educate the public about your breed and what we do at MDKC. If your dog loves to retrieve balls, we are always looking for more team members. Check us out on Tuesday evenings before the Handling class!
