What a wonderful contribution by Brian Taylor, Velma's owner.  Thanks, Brian.  It only proves how involved Mason & Dixon KC members are.

ALLISON'S Recipe for Dog Treats

I have made these dog treats which are an adaptation of many different recipes.  There really is no special formula and only a few baking concepts that you need to know:

1. Add at least one ingredient that you know your dog will love.

2. don’t add anything that is bad for a dog-like too much salt.

3. do not use ingredients that need refrigeration or are perishable-like dairy products, meat products.

4. To make these last, bake until dry.

DRY INGREDIENTS

1 cup of whole wheat flour

½ cup yellow cornmeal

½ cup self rising flour (you may substitute  any flour-JUST ADD ½ TEASPOON OF BAKING SODA AND 1 TSPN OF BAKING POWDER TO THE FLOUR)

½ CUP DRY MILK

1 PACKAGE OF any DRY CHEESE or dry cheese sauce (LIKE THE PACKAGE THAT COMES IN A BOX OF mACARONI AND CHEESE)

 WET INGREDIENTS

1 CUP low sodium CHICKEN OR BEEF BROTH (OR WATER)

½ CUP VEGETABLE OIL

MIX THE DRY INGREDIENTS AND SLOWLY ADD IN THE WET INGREDIENTS and knead UNTIL THE DOUGH IS SOFT AND PLIABLE, LIKE BREAD DOUGH.

ROLL THE DOUGH UNTIL IT IS ABOUT ½ INCH THICK.

CUT WITH ANY TYPE COOKIE CUTTER.  (YOU CAN ALSO ROLL THIS OUT INTO A THICK LONG cookie -type ROLL AND THEN MAKE ½ INCH SLICES).

Place about a ½ inch apart on a cookie sheet that is lined with a silpat baking liner or parchment paper or a light spray of vegetable oil

BAKE 350 -400 FOR 25-35 MINUTES UNTIL CRISPY

COOL THOROUGHLY

STORE IN AN AIRTIGHT CONTAINER IN REFRIGERATOR (PREVENTS MILDEW)
