SHOW TALES AND TAILS

Update on Vivi the Whippet: (Ch. Bohem C¹est La Vie)
For those of you who do not know this story, it is a sad and
cautionary tale. Vivi is a whippet who attended the
Westminster KC show in New York City, on Feb 11th.
Vivi is a three year old California bitch and was scheduled
to return home on a Delta Airlines flight departing JFK
International Airport, NY on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Somehow,
Vivi’s crate, with a very safe, spring-loaded latch, was broken
and Vivi escaped. She ran through the airport, slipped through
some coiled razor-wire fencing at the end of the runway
that leads into marshland and then Jamaica Bay. That was the
last she had been seen.
Since then, there has been a major effort by dog lovers
throughout the northeast area to rescue this Whippet.
Vivi has been sighted in an area many miles from JFK
airport, flyers in five languages have been posted,
there is an 800 number, and an army of volunteers walk
the streets of Queens (a suburb of NYC) day and night
looking for this loved whippet. There have been recent
confirmed sightings of Vivi, but no recovery as of this minute.
These sightings described markings that were not visible on
her showside so they are thought to be authentic. Vivi has
been surviving in a residential city neighborhood adjacent
to a park with a pond.
As of today, April 24, 2006, there have been more sightings
of Vivi and the search continues daily, thanks to those
incredible volunteers. Dog people are just wonderful. If you
