Paws Up
This column will be devoted to the good health of our canine companions Well, it is summer and the other morning, as I was wandering about, coffee mug in hand, our four Vizsla's suddenly made a mad gallop (it wasn't a dash!) up the back field toward that big fluffy thing with the big stripe. This screaming, deranged human, coffee mug thrown to the grass, was running (almost a gallop) behind them. I was imagining that wonderful skunk spray and how many hours it would take to get rid of that smell. That got me running-FAST.
If your dog has ever been skunked here is what you might do (before hysteria sets in) mix 1 quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, 1/3 cup baking soda and 1 teaspoon of mild dishwashing liquid. Blend well and rub it into your dog's coat, just like shampoo. A big sponge might be helpful. Don't get it into their eyes or ears. Rinse thoroughly and repeat again. Do not save the mixture-it might explode! It is the new thought, as opposed to the use-tomato juice-theory.
Then, you must spend time teaching your beloved four legged pals the following: Never chase a skunk, never chase a skunk, never chase a skunk, never....Oh, and lucky for me and my little speed demons, the skunk was smarter and ran faster... under the fence.

Ok, it’s summer, it's hot and the whole gang is hungry. What do you do when two legged pals get hungry and there are four legged pals in-tow? Take ‘m along, my friends! Yes, right here in Washington County, there are some restaurants, with outdoor space, that allow you to dine with your best woofers.
