Make sure your dog has a RABIES SHOT
Pat Miller sent the following information:
LOCAL NEWS: There have now been three raccoons tested positive for rabies
in the Williamsport area. The most recent
attacked a 4-month-old puppy, a Peaceable Paws client. The pup was one week shy of getting her rabies shot at 4 months
of age, and must now be quarantined for *6 MONTHS* with her owners watching her closely for any signs of rabies.
All family members had to receive rabies
shots as well. If your dog isn't current on his rabies shot - DO IT NOW!!
What to do in an Emergency
Hopefully, there will never be a need for you to take your pet to a veterinary hospital in the middle of the night.
That is a hope, but, alas, not the reality. The unfortunate thing is that in Washington County there IS NO 24-hour
emergency service. Most vets actually have to refer clients to Frederick Emergency Animal Hospital which is open
Monday through Friday at 7 PM and closes in the morning at 8 AM. It is open 24 hours a day on Saturday and Sunday.
Currently there is a group of 13 to 14 local veterinarians who are working to open a local emergency hospital here
in Hagerstown. Let's hope that this happens. Nothing is scarier than a pet in extreme need in the middle of the night
with no emergency care close by. That extra time driving to Frederick seems forever if you are holding on to your
four legged babe who is whimpering in acute distress and pain. Speak to your local vet and offer words of
encouragement for this much needed project.
